A kite is born ..
Ever wonder how a modern kiteboarding kite is made?
Let's take a look inside one of Duotone's high tech facilities.
Duotone has contracted with their factory in Sri Lanka, which is one of the main kite production centers of the world
Duotone places great emphasis on the quality of each of its products. They manufacture abut 100 kites per day which represents 85% of Duotone's total production.
From the fabric cutting process to shipping, a kite goes through seven independent quality controls. High-tech production techniques are used with state-of-the-art cutting machines.
Computer-controlled sewing machines reinforce critical areas of a kite that have to withstand significant excess stress, like valves and gaskets.
Although many processes are automated, there is still a lot of hands on work. One examples is the thread, which has to be individually and manually sealed! It is this level of attention to detail that make the difference between the production of a high-quality product versus a low-quality one.
In total, about 44 hours of manual labor are invested in the manufacture of a 12M Evo kite.
To produce a finished kite it takes a full three weeks of work, including production and quality controls checks!
